Yellowstone reintroduced wolves in 1995 and overall it has been a very successful effort. Currently, there are almost 100 wolves in the park.

We were in Yellowstone earlier this month and did end up seeing one of the Lamar Canyon wolf pack pups. This pack apparently has some major problems with mange, and this particular pup has struggled to keep up with the rest of the pack. My son managed to get a very nice picture of the pup looking a bit rough, but not nearly as ill-looking as it looked in general. I also got the shot of it standing on a rock under a tree.

I also got a profile picture of it showing more clearly the severity of the mange (https://goo.gl/photos/wYgDABHvvy6mBmBT9 not included directly in the post for folks who'd rather not see an obviously hurt animal) which does not look good for the pup in terms of survival, but some of the wolf watchers suggested that it was improving and it may yet make it.
