Playing with the Google Assistant in Allo (https://allo.google.com/) today.

I took a picture of my lunch and sent it the Assistant. It showed a clickable chip: "What is in waldorf salad"

I then clicked on it and got a list of ingredients and link from Wikipedia. #livinginthefuture

I work on a bunch of this stuff, so it's sort of "familiar", but that's still really magical combination of interactions.

I'm really impressed it can tell Waldorf salad from arbitrary other kinds of salads. (Can it do this with salads in general, or is there something about celery or apples or walnuts that's visually distinctive? Time to try it out, I guess :) )

Somewhat unexpectedly, it seemed to get Caesar salad and a generic leafy greens salad.

A picture of Suan La Chow Chow, it seemed to think was Mongolian food which isn't right, but is less wrong than I think I expected...

Isn't that the usual joke about "AI"? As soon as we understand how they work they stop being"intelligence" and are just software.
