Any opinions / recent experience on WiFi enabled SD cards?

I have several of the old generation Eye-Fi SD cards, and they end-of-life'd the product. I'm annoyed, but I also understand how product life cycles work. This broke my primary usage mode. Unfortunately, it's not clear what, if anything meets my needs.

At this point, I only care about bulk, automatic transfer between the SD card (in the SLR) and my phone. I don't care about it working in Hotspot mode or tranferring to anyone else's cloud service. My phone will upload them to Google Photos just fine.

What I don't want is a cloud subscription required for my use case, I don't want to have to manually select the photos to transfer, and I want it to work reliably. If I have to set up my phone as a hot spot or choose to connect my phone to the hotspot of the card, fine, that switch doesn't need to be automatic. Basically, I want to do a thing on my phone (run the app and/or configure wifi) and have all the photos on the SD card get transferred to my phone.

Anyone use FlashAir, Transcend, Flucard, EZShare, or the current generation of Eye-Fi in this mode and happy with the product? I think the Eye-Fi Mobi cards might work, but they push their useless cloud service really hard, but I think it works without that service, but am not sure. The various other ones seem to have their own issues.

I bought an EZShare; I can connect to its WiFi hotspot and download images; they also have apps I didn't try out. I'm glad to lend it to you if you want to try it out.

The website seems pretty specific that your use case is supported by the Mobi cards (although there are so many typos on the first page that I'm vaguely disturbed):

😀 I actually like my subscription cloud services when they interoperate, aren't required for hardware to function and provide actual service. (ie, I pay for Netflix incrementally to stream to my Chromecast one time purchase and I pay for Google music incrementally to my one time purchased Google Home).

I do suspect the Mobi works, at least for now, but my trust in them is reduced given how they handled the end of life for the X2 series.

Anything that involves fiddling with cards doesn't work for my workflow, but I'll give it some thought.

I thought Wi-Fi cameras were becoming too common for the Wi-Fi SD card to be able to compete anymore... but it sounds like it's actually a pretty active product space? Surprised.

Probably not what you want but just in case the wi-fi cards aren't satisfactory either. I second what +Julia Tuttle said, along with tasker to auto detect insertion to tell foldersync to auto backup.

+Chris Shabsin part of the issue AFAICT is that the software supporting the in camera WiFi is horrible. I have two cameras, one with built in WiFi, but the software (Nikon) only lets you download one full resolution photo at a time, each of which requires four clicks. Insane. I hear the Canon software is a bit better, but maybe only a little, but my Canon is an older model.
